One Beautiful Dream – Giveaway!

One Beautiful Dream – Giveaway!

Jennifer Fulwiler, Heather Renshaw, and Kelly Wahlquist at Catholic Women Rejoice 2015
I owe a lot to Jennifer Fulwiler. She and Hallie Lord concocted The Edel Gathering several years back, and because of their “yes,” this weary, overwhelmed Mama of five (with undiagnosed PPD) had the time and space to let her hair down and dust off her latent charisms of “dancing on chairs” and “rapping the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song.”
Edel 2014. We bad.

At Edel, I laughed until I cried, cried until I laughed, and met a gaggle of amazing kindred spirits, several of whom are part of my tribe to this very day. I remembered that I like to dance, sing, laugh, and that it is OKAY TO HAVE FUN, dang it! For some reason, I’d forgotten all about who I was and what *I* liked doing beneath the never-ending avalanche of laundry and demanding chaos of large family life.

It was Jen who encouraged me to keep writing and to resurrect my blog. And, while keynoting at our Portland women’s conference the next year, Jen recorded a clandestine clip of me doing my MC thang. She emailed it to her booking agent, saying: “You need to get this person on the Catholic speaking circuit TODAY.” It sounds sort of audacious, but that’s the kind of person Jen is—she dreams big, and inspires others to do the same.

Which leads me to the reason for this post. I’m so grateful to Jen, whose amazing second book, ONE BEAUTIFUL DREAM, launches TODAY!  I hope you pick up a copy for yourself and your friends and allow Jen Fulwiler’s special brand of encouragement to uplift and inspire you to follow your dreams just like she did for me.
But, better yet, wouldn’t it be awesome to WIN a copy? Just in time for Mother’s Day, I have one for YOU or someone you love! Woooooo hoooooo! 🎉🎉🎉
Follow @realcatholicmom and @jenniferfulwiler for a chance to win THIS BOOK in time for Mother’s Day!

Simply head on over to my giveaway post on Instagram and tag as many friends as you’d like in my feed. You MUST be following me and Jen on Instagram to qualify–I’m gonna check and double-check! The contest ends on Friday, May the 4th (be with you), and I’ll pick and announce a winner on Sunday, May 6th just in time for my birthday. Man, I love giving good stuff away!!

Oh, and … If I look tired in this picture, it’s because I am. LOL 😆 Motherhood and chasing my blue flame isn’t easy. There are only 31 days until my first book is due to the publisher. THIRTY-ONE. And I’m really feeling the squeeze. There are super early mornings and late nights and lots and lots of prayer and coffee. But I’m happy. Blessed. Clinging to Jesus. That’s the way any of this works–bottom line–I cling to him. Personally, my one beautiful dream is to do all the things I want to do while still getting enough sleep. So.

Okay! That’s it for now–don’t forget to enter the giveaway. Open to U.S. residents over the age of 13 only.

PS: Congratulations again, and lots of love, Jen! Can’t wait ’til the next party! 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻

random musings on the passage of time + birthday giveaway!

random musings on the passage of time + birthday giveaway!

Hello! It’s me. It’s been a while since I’ve written any of length here rather than asking you to click away to something written somewhere else. Don’t worry – I’ll make my click-away request later on. But for now, a few things have been on my mind lately.

If there’s one thing I’m learning in my older age, it’s that time can be a big bully. One minute you’re seven years old, begging your parents to buy you a new pair of clear jelly sandals and a Strawberry Shortcake baby doll, the next you’re on the cusp of 20 years’ practice being 21. How does that even happen?? I mean, other than the imminent passage of chronological time, of course.

Last week I thought about creating a list of 41 things to do in my 41st year to make things (my life? the blog? your life?) more colorful. Upon further consideration, however, it sounds 1) kind of cheesy, TBH; 2) like a lot of work to conjure; and 3) do I really need to add more things to my plate?

Bobbi’s recent post for Blessed is She got me thinking about the things I truly should be doing, and the things I bring on myself. Sure, it’s common sense (biblical, even!) that each day has troubles of its own. But for whatever reason that I still haven’t thoroughly worked out, I have a bad habit of piling other troubles upon my plate today, tomorrow, and for the foreseeable future. I’m not a complete masochist, mind you. I get into a pickle because, usually, aforementioned troubles are impeccably disguised in fun/important/urgent/ministerial/good citizen’s clothing.

I’m currently reading Shauna Niequist’s bestselling book Present Over Perfect, and it’s been eye-opening. I can relate to a lot of what she writes about striving vs. abiding, doing vs. being, etc. I’m hoping to take part in a free online study beginning next week; that is, if it doesn’t interfere with the rest of my plate. #LOLOLOLOL

So, while I can’t promise that I’ll ever get aound to that 41 Things for Year 41 post, I can promise that, as has become tradition, I’m giving something away to you, dear Reader, to celebrate my birthday! Thanks to my friends at Catholic T-Shirt Club I’ve got some fun things to give away to one of YOU! Check out their awesome monthly subscription boxes, chock full of faith-filled goodies to share and live the Catholic faith for adults AND kiddos ((super cute Divine Mercy t for kids in my instastories today!)).

Birthday giveaway 2017

If you share my IG post, you get five extra entries, just like that! One lucky and blessed winner will be randomly selected and announced on Monday, May 8th and receives allll the stuff pictured over on IG (and here … except you can’t have my birthday coffee ☕️?). Shipping in domestic US only, please and thank you ever so much.

Thanks again to my friends at Catholic T-Shirt Club for their generosity. And – one last thing – In honor of my birthday, if you can, please thank God for something He’s given you. Eat or drink something delicious. Kiss someone you love. Do something that makes your heart sing. I’ll be praying for y’all. Please pray for me.

Love,

heather

Celebrating 200 posts with a giveaway!

Celebrating 200 posts with a giveaway!

Hello, friends!

Along with being a Christian, married to my husband, parenting my kiddos, and owning some pants from x number of years ago that still sorta fit me sometimes, this here blog is one of the most steadfast things in my life.

And looky here – I recently published my 200th post! For a soul as inconsistently consistent as I, that’s nothing to sneeze at. So, to celebrate, I’m offering a fun little giveaway with the help of an amazingly talented and creative friend who is likely 100x more consistent and 150x more generous than I.gina-2

While she’s been on etsy several years, Gina Fensterer from Other Side of the Fence had a grand re-opening of sorts recently, adding home altar sets – including prayer cloths, candles, and printables – to her wares.

Gina told me she decided to open shop after she made a few prayer table cloths for her family: “I thought it would be fun to make special cloths for others, in combination with prints and candles,” she said. And, “After sharing the idea with women in a few online Catholic social media circles, I took the plunge!”

Soon, Gina says she will have preorders available for Advent and home altar sets for the entire liturgical year. How cool is that??

In between projects, Gina kindly agreed to make one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite (soon-to-be? I hope so! Saints), Mother Angelica, into a beautiful print to give away to one lucky reader. Isn’t it just lovely???laugh-a-lot-win-this-print

“Try to laugh a lot,” Mother Angelica said, “because life is funny and everybody today is too serious. The only tragedy in the world, my friend, is sin.”

If you’d like to win this custom print, simply put your name in the combox, below, and tell me something that cheers you up when circumstances threaten to knock you down. From all entries received, I’ll randomly select and announce the winner on Monday, September 19th.

Oh! And as if the giveaway wasn’t enough, beginning today, Wednesday, Sept. 14 and ending next Tuesday, Sept. 20, Gina is kindly offering an exclusive coupon code just for Real Catholic Mom readers – use LaughALot15 when you check out for 15% off anything in her shop!

Thank you so very much, Gina, for praising God with the gifts He’s given you, and thank you, dear readers, for hanging with me, as inconsistent as I may be. <3

Love,

heather
