31 Days of Unexpected Joy: New Saints! (Day 18)

31 Days of Unexpected Joy: New Saints! (Day 18)

Happy Sunday, Friends!

I am so thrilled with the canonization of St. Therese’s parents, Louis and Zelie Martin. It is fantastic news for the Church as a whole and married couples in particular that these two are the very first married couple to be canonized in modern times. Aren’t they amazing?

The Martins

If you’d like to read Pope Francis’ words during the canonization Mass homily, his remarks may be found here.

“The radiant witness of these new saints inspires us to persevere in joyful service to our brothers and sisters, trusting in the help of God and the maternal protection of Mary. From heaven may they now watch over us and sustain us by their powerful intercession.” -Pope Francis

Until tomorrow, may God abundantly bless y’all. Sts. Louis and Zelie Martin, pray for us!

31 Days of Unexpected Joy: Winners (Day 15)

Hello, Friends! Happy Thursday, and Happy Feast of St. Teresa of Avila, who said:

“To reach something good, it is useful to have gone astray.” -St. Teresa of Avila

Amen, St. Teresa, Amen.

She also gave us this classic quote:

“From silly devotions and sour-faced saints, good Lord, deliver us.” -St. Teresa of Avila

Now that’s my kind of saint.

Some of you loyal readers may recall that I posted about beauty last week, and featured these amazing Saints for All Occasions notecards. At the time, I said that one blessed entrants would win her own set of notecards, but, as is often the case, I was wrong. Dead wrong. After the post published, the amazingly talented Sandy DiPasqua, who cannot be outdone in generosity, said,

“Heather, what a fun post! How about we allow for not one, but ten notecard winners?” -Sandra DiPasqua

Are you kidding me?! Now, that’s my kind of giveaway!

So, if the winners* would pretty-please email their shipping addresses to: RealCatholicMom @ gmail {dot} com, and we’ll be sure your notecards get to you post haste! Please use “31Days giveaway winner” in your subject link. And I thank you.

31 Days of Unexpected Joy: Beauty (Day 8)

31 Days of Unexpected Joy: Beauty (Day 8)

A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

-John Keats

Keats may have coined the phrase, but I first heard it from Mary Poppins. Anyone else??

My relationship with beauty is somewhat, um, complex. I don’t think I ever truly appreciated beauty it in all its various and sundry iterations until recently. The topic is probably best saved for an more in-depth post on another day. That being said, I do have a great appreciation for beautiful art, especially sacred art, which has had a profound impact on me and my ministry.

Fast-forward to today, and I am blessed to share something beautiful with you, dear readers, and offer you something unexpected – an opportunity to partake in the beauty shared! What joy!

Saints for all Occasions notecards are based on a collection of vintage holy cards belonging to Fr. Eugene Carella and meticulously curated by Barbara Calamari and Sandra DiPasqua of novena.com.

One of the great things about these notecards, other than their striking beauty, is that there are an assortment of saints suitable to send for various occasions. Is your daughter going off to college? Give her St. Joan of Arc, patroness of bravery.

St Joan of Arc

Or send St. Monica, Patron Saint of Mothers to your Mom as a pick-me-up. Or you could send (Feast Day alert) St. Teresa of Ávila (invoked for healing), St. Thomas Aquinas (Patron of Students), St. Vitus (Patron of Laughter – who knew?), St. Julian (Patron of Hospitality),

St. Julian

and many more. Each of the 20 cards features a different saint and comes with envelopes in a gorgeous foil-stamped box.

The first 50 commenters* on this post, will also receive the novena app (for iPhone) for free, through the kindness of Sandra diPasqua, who is probably one of the most generous people I’ve never met in real life! Thank you so very, very much, Sandy!
